Frequently Asked Questions

Which DAW will be used?

Our in-person courses are taught using Ableton Live 11. However, Claim Your Sound and Finishing Touches are open to users of any DAW.

How long are your individual courses?

All individual courses are 3 months in length. Classes are once per week for 10 weeks, followed by a break week and a final project presentation.

What is the difference between an individual course and a program?

Many of our courses are part of more comprehensive programs ranging from 6-15 months. For example, NEW PRODUCER (one of our most popular programs) comprises two 3-month courses, Building Blocks and Making Waves.

Which course should I start with?

If you’re unsure which course or program is right for you, we recommend booking a virtual tour with one of our team members. If you’re new to music production, Building Blocks is a great place to get started.

Yes! IO Music Academy students are eligible for educational pricing on most music production software. Students can save 40% on Ableton and up to 50% on partner brands such as Arturia, FabFilter, Sonarworks, Soundtoys, Mixed In Key, Native Instruments, and more.

Are private lessons included?

Yes! 3 private lessons are included with every course. We encourage students to book these monthly. Additional lessons can also be purchased.

What if I miss a class?

Every class is recorded and uploaded to our student portal the following day.

What about homework?

Each week, you will be asked to complete an assignment that is to be presented in class the following week. Expect to spend 2-4 hours per week outside of class working on your assignments.

Is studio time included?

Yes! Students enrolled in any certificate program can use our studios as often as they like at no additional charge. All we ask is that students schedule one session at a time. Sessions are 3 hours. As soon as you finish your session, you’re welcome to book another one!

Students enrolled in an individual course can access 12 hours of studio time.
